The Good, the Bad, and the Terrifying

The good news is that we're getting a dishwasher. Thank God. That's an hour of my day that I can spend on other things. ETA Thursday.

The bad news is that our fridge died, again. This time for real. One of my projects today will be cleaning it out. Gross. Thankfully, the landlords come back from vacation today and the fridge is on warranty, so hopefully this problem will get dealt with sooner rather than later. In the mean time, it's not dissimilar from living in a third world country. Or college, given the plethora of take-out and ramen.

The scary news is that we're hosting a party tonight. Casual, but still. With no fridge and no dishwasher. This'll be exciting.

well.... some people would call oakland a third world country, but that's unfair. good luck with the party tonight can't wait to see what you ate.

I am SOOOO sorry. I guess this means no mint juleps, no chocolate mousse, no shaker gin and tonics, no ice tea. Of course, considering how cold it is in your neck of the woods, you're probably aiming for "warm the cockles of the heart stuff anyway". Good luck

I too can't wait to see what you whip up without a fridge. Nothing worse than cleaning out a gross frigerator.

Good luck with the party - can you buy big bags of ice to stick in the bath or laundry trough - that what we did in my younger days - don't have those sort of parties in my life any more and glad of it. Also wanted to ask if most rentals are furnished with things like fridges and furniture - sounds like yours is (in Austrlaia most aren't, in the UK most are)

That sounds like a perfect "Bring your own something / Potluck" party. Surviving without a dishwasher is tough, but a fridge is impossible. I hope it gets fixed soon.

I'm with Adam it's a "we have no fridge" party. Everyone bring something nonpershiable!

Eeeeks - I'm sure your gathering will be great, even if you have to get a little extra creative!

Lol - my recommendation: Fill the bath with ice and keep it as packed as possible. Then sleep off hangover til Thursday and use your new dishwasher for the cleaning up!

Enjoy the party!

Had this happen a couple of years ago, it took Sears two weeks and five attempts to deliver the replacement under warranty. After the fourth we asked for our money back, got it, and they still attempted a replacement delivery. I used ice in the bottom of the dead box. I actually remember my mother using ice-boxes on vacation.

Most appartments in the US are rented with frige and stove but not with furniture. You can find exceptions.

Yeah, I second that question. Everything OK? No pressure to blog, I think some of us just miss you. ;)
